1. Who We Are

Mount Allison Social (“the Service,” “we/us/our”) is an independent, student-run platform for MtA students. It is not sponsored by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Mount Allison University.

2. Eligibility & Accounts

• Registration is limited to individuals with a valid @mta.ca email.
• Accounts may be suspended or removed if eligibility is lost or cannot be verified.
• Users are responsible for their credentials and all account activity.
• Users must be at least the age of majority or have legal capacity to contract in their jurisdiction.

3. Community Areas & Features

The Service offers communities/forums, posting, comments, voting, direct messages, group chats, polls, calendar, marketplace/classifieds, and notifications (email/SMS/push). Features may change without notice.

4. Notes Module & Academic Integrity

• Purpose: Share original study notes, summaries, and syllabuses.
• Prohibited: Uploading or requesting exams, test banks, answer keys, assignments, solution sets, labs, or any content that facilitates academic dishonesty.
• Tokens: Represent trust/contribution, earned through legitimate content. No monetary value. Cannot be bought or sold.
• Enforcement: Content is reviewed only if reported. See support page.

5. Marketplace / Classifieds

Peer-to-peer only. We do not handle payments, shipping, or quality control. Prohibited items: illegal goods, weapons, dangerous materials, counterfeit items, academic work for hire. Always meet safely, comply with laws, and verify items.

6. User Conduct

• Do not break laws.
• Do not harass, dox, or threaten others.
• Do not post pornographic, violent, or hateful content.
• Do not infringe intellectual property or privacy rights.
• Do not spam or run automated bots/scrapers.
• Do not bypass security or upload academic-dishonesty material.
• Do not impersonate University or staff.

7. Your Content & Our License

You retain ownership of your content. You grant the Service a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute your content as necessary for the Service operation, backups, and technical copies.

You represent that you have the rights to your content and that it does not infringe third-party rights.

8. Community Governance & Moderation

The platform emphasizes student governance and peer moderation; however, final moderation decisions rest with Service administrators for safety and legal compliance.

9. Notice-and-Takedown

Reports can be submitted via support page. We review reports promptly, may remove/restrict content, and repeat violators may lose access.

For copyright-related issues, a DMCA-style process applies as hosting is U.S.-based. Consider designating a DMCA agent separately.

10. Messaging, Group Chats & Notifications

Direct messages and group chats are user-to-user communications. Abuse reports may be investigated. Notifications are optional and configurable in Settings; carrier charges may apply.

11. Privacy Overview

• We collect account info, profile details, posted content, and logs to secure and operate the Service.
• Data is used for service operation, notifications, and legal compliance.
• Data may be shared with service providers under confidentiality.
• We notify users of security breaches as required.

12. Third-Party Links & Student-Run Status

Links in posts or marketplace are not endorsed. The Service is student-run, independent, and not officially sanctioned by Mount Allison University.

13. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as-is” and “as-available.” Content is student-generated and may be inaccurate or objectionable. We are not responsible for user conduct or transactions.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither we nor student contributors are liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages. Total aggregate liability is limited to CAD $50.

15. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify the Service against claims arising from your content, use of the Service, or violation of these Terms.

16. Termination

Accounts may be suspended or terminated at any time for safety, legal risk, or repeated violations. Users may delete accounts; limited backups/logs may be retained.

17. Changes

We may update these Terms. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance.

18. Governing Law & Venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of New Brunswick, Canada, with exclusive venue in New Brunswick courts.
